In Ukraine they want to restore the Soviet international airport
During his visit to the Cherkasy region, President of Ukraine Vladmir Zelensky inspected the process of overhauling the runway of the airport in Cherkassy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The press service of the head of state reports this.
“Airport director Ivan Dalibozhak noted that major repairs of the runway began in 2018. The cost of the work is UAH 128 million. There is also design documentation for the apron and steering track. He noted that there is only one road leading from Cherkassy to Kyiv, so there is a need for air service,” the message said.
According to Dalibozhak, the reconstruction of the strip will be completed on December 1, 2019, and it will take two years and UAH 750 million to complete the construction of the entire complex.
After a visit to the airport, at a meeting in Cherkassy, Zelensky announced that he would facilitate the process of searching for investors.
“There will be a streak this year. We will now find [funds]. I posed this question to the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Alexei Goncharuk. We will help, contact your business elite, we will look for people who will simultaneously build the terminal. We want you to have a normal international airport in the next two years,” he said.
Cherkasy airport was opened in 1984, it had international status and served up to 80 flights per day, the press service of the head of state reported. There have been no regular air services at the airport since 1997; it finally stopped accepting planes in 2001. In 2018, a major overhaul of the strip began. The construction readiness of the facility as of mid-July 2019 is 43%.
