In Ukraine they want to close the Hungarian consulate
It is necessary to close the “extra” Hungarian consulate in Transcarpathia so that fewer Hungarian passports are issued there.
People's Deputy Viktor Baloga stated this on the TV program "Big Evening" on the Newsone TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, after Ukraine has received visa-free travel, there is no need for two consulates in the same region. We have a consulate in Nyiregyháza, Hungary. To avoid scandals and mirror images, it seems to me that we should completely close our consulate in Nyiregyháza. It's not needed there. There will be money savings. But at the same time, we will say that until such and such a period there should not be a consulate in Beregovo,” the deputy said.
He also explained how closing the consulate would be beneficial for Ukraine.
“Firstly, it is a mirror image of the process. And we take it, and they take it. On the other hand, we will have one less administrative building, where Hungarian passports will be distributed to Ukrainian citizens on behalf of official Budapest. This will be the way forward. There will be one less room. It will be wonderful,” said Baloga.
Let us remind you that in the last week in relations between Ukraine and Hungary a new crisis has begun. He was prompted by a video from the ceremony of accepting Transcarpathian residents into Hungarian citizenship, which took place at the consulate in Berehove. In the video, the consul urged Transcarpathians to hide their citizenship from the Ukrainian authorities.
And Ukrainian diplomat Oleg Voloshin said that if Ukraine is poorer than Hungary, then even Ukrainians of Transcarpathia will support secession region.
