This was announced by the head of the company Slawomir Nowak, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to the press service of Ukravtodor.
“There are first positive results from the implementation of our 4E safety improvement program (Engineering / Standards, Enforcement / Supervision, Emergency / Rescue, Education). From here - from the Poltava region - we are beginning to implement measures aimed at increasing traffic safety and preserving people’s lives,” he said.
It is noted that as part of a three-year national program to improve road safety, Ukravtodor plans to update technical standards for the design and construction of roads, automate vehicle speed control, equip 1 thousand above-ground pedestrian crossings with traffic islands, lighting, road signs and markings, and build bypass roads near populated areas.
“This is the first example of our strategy to improve safety. Islands are one of the engineering solutions that you can see in many countries of the European Union. They allow you to reduce traffic speed by 50% at the entrances to populated areas, and speed is the first enemy of traffic safety. We need to reduce the speed on the roads of Ukraine,” the press service quotes Novak as saying.
According to him, he sent a letter to the Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan about the need to reduce the speed of traffic within populated areas from 60 to 50 km per hour.
“The minister fully agrees with this. I hope to complete this work by the end of the year. This will be a fundamental step towards improving traffic safety,” Novak concluded.
