Prisons are being closed en masse in Ukraine
Today in Ukraine, five institutions of the State Criminal Executive Service have been mothballed and 11 have been relocated, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denis Chernyshov spoke about this.
“In the period from 2014 to 2017, in order to optimize the existing network of penal institutions, 5 institutions were mothballed (the activities were suspended," he said.
Among the closed ones, according to the deputy minister, are Derzhevskaya (No. 110), Berezhanskaya (No. 141), Pavlogradskaya (No. 142) correctional colonies, as well as Balakleysky (No. 106), Sambirsky (No. 121) correctional centers.
In addition, the Deputy Minister of Justice said, in accordance with the government resolution and the order of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine “On optimization of the activities of penal institutions,” 11 penal institutions were released.
In particular, he specified, Sokalskaya (No. 47), Berezanskaya (No. 95), Belozerskaya (No. 105), Galitskaya (No. 128), Lvovskaya (No. 48), Peschanskaya (No. 59) correctional colonies and Domnitsky (No. 135) were resettled. , Poltava (No. 136), Mariupol (No. 138) correctional centers, Dubenskaya and Kuryazhskaya educational colonies. The Galician correctional colony (No. 128) was reorganized into a correctional center.
Chernyshov also said that measures are now being completed to release two more penal institutions, namely the Shostka Correctional Colony (No. 66) and the Dolinsky Correctional Center (No. 118).
