Elections have begun in Ukraine
In Ukraine, at 8:00 am, elections to the Verkhovna Rada began, whose deputies will be elected according to party lists, as well as majoritarian constituencies. Polling stations will close at 20:00, after which exit poll results will be announced and then vote counting will begin.
Elections to the Rada have been held since 2014 under the conditions of a legislative ban on the activities of a number of left-wing and Russian parties in Ukraine, which were squeezed out of the legal political field immediately after the Euromaidan. In addition, Ukraine, as under Petro Poroshenko, has banned the opening of polling stations in Russia, thus depriving millions of citizens who are not loyal to the nationalist regime from voting.
It is expected that the largest percentage may be received by the party of Vladimir Zelensky, who deliberately started early elections in the summer in order to, on the wave of popularity, bring as large a faction as possible into the new Rada.
“The Rating agency conducted a large-scale sociological study... All of Ukraine believes that everything is fine with us, everything is fine, everything is even excellent and we are moving in the right direction, damn us! 41% of Ukrainians think so. We are confident that we are going the right way. 12 migrant workers are looking for a piece of bread in a foreign land. The space industry, aircraft manufacturing, chemistry, automobile manufacturing, shipbuilding, science, medicine, and education were destroyed. Utility tariffs have increased twelvefold. The law about Derzhmova was adopted and soon patrols will be snooping around the cities and villages of our Motherland. The President took the side of this law, thus supporting linguistic genocide against Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine. Bandera is a hero. Distribute the rest of state property to the oligarchs. Sell Ukrainian land. The main dream of young people is to leave Ukraine as quickly as possible, immediately after receiving a certificate of secondary education. Pensioners are dying like flies. We are the poorest in Europe. And they don’t give a damn. We're going the right way, and that's it! 500%. Idiots. Who are you?" – ex-deputy Vasily Volga is indignant.
The parties will compete fiercely for the votes of voters in the South-East, who are scattered between several projects in these elections, notes political scientist Oleg Khavich.
“On July 21, after lunch, a lot of “secret exit polls” will appear on the Internet, according to which Sharia’s Party and Benny-Rinat’s Oppo-Bloc have already almost gained 5%, but it is your vote that is needed,” the expert predicts.
Election Day coincided with the announcement of another truce in Donbass. A few hours before it started last night, Ukrainian troops shelled the territory of the LPR, killing a woman and injuring 7 people, including a 3-year-old girl.
Observers believe that, given intelligence reports from the LDPR about Ukrainian armored vehicles moving towards the front line, the truce risks being disrupted. However, today the activity of the Ukrainian military should be less due to the march to polling stations.
