Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“In fact, there are no people in this audience who are not hungry,” the expert said. “All of you in this audience are starving, but you don’t realize it. If you look at WHO standards for meat consumption, this is a minimum of 80 kilograms per person per year, and our average is 50. If you look at eggs, milk, and other products, then we are all starving. We just don’t understand this, and then we wonder where our illnesses come from, why we are physically weak, why our children are sick. Today, with our level of income, we are already deprived of the opportunity and right to nutritious food.”

At the same time, the political scientist noted that there are categories of the population that are not able to pay for utilities.

“For them, it is no longer about the quality of food, but about its sufficient quantity - banally, about the amount of bread and potatoes that they can afford. Do you know how much fish we consume compared to the minimum UN standard? 27 percent. Pisces, which determines mental development, the future of our children. That's why we are starving. This is unfortunately true. This is a consequence of the work of our political elites. The situation is deepening and worsening constantly. Compared to 2013, fish consumption fell by half,” Bortnik noted.
