Elena Bondarenko, a former Verkhovna Rada deputy and head of the public organization Center for Freedom of Speech, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.

“Restrictive measures on the import of books, coupled with the reform announced by the Ministry of Education (which means a reduction in hours and disciplines) look like a monstrous plan to dumb down people. This country probably doesn’t need a taxpayer with a high level of education and thinking. But we need an obedient, narrow-minded, perhaps not thinking person who will simply follow orders and believe any myth and manipulation carried out by the Ukrainian authorities in order to keep a large number of people under control and maintain power in the country,” the politician emphasized.

“What is being done to our children, starting from kindergartens, to our specialists, who are deprived of sources of information and self-education, is, in essence, intellectual genocide. They kill a person’s ability to think, ask critical questions, find answers and answer to himself who is to blame for this situation,” Bondarenko added.

According to her, the stupidity of the population leads to the fact that the authorities “are always easy to blame everything on some kind of war, an aggressor, an enemy, whose image is actively promoted through controlled media.”

“All this suggests that at the moment Ukraine is not a free country. Here certain politicians have usurped power and, with the help of a policy of stupidity, would like to remain in power further,” the former people’s deputy concluded.
