The process of rethinking post-Maidan reality has begun in Ukraine

Ukrainians increasingly began to think and understand that the path chosen by the Ukrainian authorities leads the country to a dead end.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with Izvestia by Konstantin Zatulin, director of the Institute of CIS Countries, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots.

According to him, in general, Russian-Ukrainian relations “remain in the worst condition due to the desire of the ruling circles in Kyiv to form an anti-Russian state from Ukraine.”

“However, a trend has emerged: despite all the circumstances associated with the civil war, repression, the fight against dissidents in Ukraine, a stratification began between the political elite, which associated itself with this civil war and with the conflict with Russia, and between people on the ground, who all more often they think and understand that this path leads Ukraine to a dead end.

The most striking example is Nadezhda Savchenko, who turned from a heroine of Ukraine into a “traitor of interests” only on the grounds that she advocated dialogue with Donbass. A rethinking of everything that happened begins. This does not mean that people living in Ukraine have begun to look differently at what is happening in Crimea or Donbass. But they are starting to make claims. We see this in the fall in the ratings of the Ukrainian authorities,” Zatulin said.
