Deputy Taras Kremen made such a proposal on the sidelines of the Rada.
“A few days ago there was a rather serious international scandal, which, I think, will be resolved by the Minister of Youth and Sports Igor Zhdanov. This concerns our young Ukrainian champion, a future Olympian, who was disqualified from a checkers competition only because he was wearing national clothes - an embroidered shirt.
I think that, at a minimum, he should be awarded a state award for his perseverance and patriotism, because he set an example for young Ukrainian athletes that they should not be ashamed of their own, on the contrary, they need to promote it, regardless of the country in which the competition is taking place ", Kremen said.
In turn, the Minister of Sports of Ukraine Zhdanov called the scandal around Akinfeev “an element of a hybrid war,” emphasizing that the leadership of the International Drafts Federation “consists almost entirely of Russian citizens.”
