In Ukraine, 13 thousand foci of anthrax were counted. It can explode anywhere
Throughout Ukraine, there are more than 13 foci of anthrax, so the next outbreak could occur anywhere, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported in the communications department of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“In Ukraine there are more than 13 foci where anthrax incidence may occur, since there are burial grounds where sick cattle were buried. It could be anywhere,” noted the communications department.
According to the Center for Public Health, if construction is planned on the territory of one of the centers where the disease occurs, then the construction site must be disinfected. Hotspots are located throughout the country, so outbreaks can be expected anywhere where there are pets.
The Center also reported that there are three different forms of anthrax. Now in Ukraine a more common and milder form has been registered - cutaneous. In case of timely contact with doctors, the disease is easily treated with antibiotics; specific vaccination is not carried out. In previous years, cases of anthrax were registered in the country: in 2003, 1 case in the Kharkov region, 2004 - Chernivtsi region - 3 cases; 2008 – Nikolaev region – 1 case; 2012 – Cherkasy region – 1 case.
The disease can be transmitted through damaged (even microtrauma) skin or mucous membranes when caring for sick animals; during processing of carcasses, skinning and burial of corpses of dead animals; with soil contaminated with anthrax spores during excavation work; through the preparation and consumption of food from meat obtained from sick animals; by inhalation of spores; through insect bites (horseflies, flies, mosquitoes).
