There are no patriots in Ukraine, so Poroshenko will not go to prison - political scientist
The appearance of a recording of a discussion allegedly between Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and US Vice President Joe Biden about the attempt to infiltrate a group of Ukrainian saboteurs into Crimea in August 2016 will not have any consequences for Petro Poroshenko.
Political scientist Alexander Semchenko told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“The publication of compromising evidence in recent Ukrainian political history is a common occurrence. A lot of incriminating evidence on various politicians has already been published, and I don’t remember a single case when such incriminating evidence somehow significantly affected a politician’s rating.
People listened - they were outraged - nothing changes. Because people believe that “the rest are even worse”, that’s the principle. And it doesn’t matter who Poroshenko spoke to – Biden or someone else. Of course, both in these records and in other facts of Poroshenko’s activities there is much that is offensive to a true Ukrainian patriot. The problem is that, in essence, there are no real Ukrainian patriots.
There will be no criminal consequences for Poroshenko either. 24 criminal cases have already been opened against Poroshenko. They seem to be under investigation. Apparently, prosecutors and investigators are doing this so “professionally” that they are not even able to complete these cases.
It is possible that criminal proceedings will be registered. This will be done either by the DBR or the Prosecutor General's Office. But there will definitely not be a result in the form of Poroshenko in the dock and a guilty verdict,” the political scientist believes.
