Russian troops in eastern Ukraine occupy command posts and control modern technology, but you can’t talk about the threat of a full-scale invasion, said US Ambassador to NATO Douglas Loot on Wednesday, February 4.
Speaking at a briefing on the eve of a meeting of defense ministers of the alliance member countries, the diplomat noted that Russian special services are trying to control the actions of the militias, but they do not always succeed, the diplomat was quoted as saying RBC with reference to Reuters.
“They [the Russians] have created sort of a parallel command structure that oversees the command structure of the separatists in an attempt to control what is happening on the ground,” Lute said. “They were only partially successful in this.” We don't think they have absolute control over the separatist groups, but we think they are trying." The ambassador also noted that Russian soldiers operate modern Russian military equipment, which was transferred to the militias. According to him, such equipment, including electronic warfare and air defense systems, cannot be transferred to people who do not have the appropriate skills. He recalled that in the United States it takes years to teach how to use such equipment.
