In Ukraine they explained why they do not officially declare war on Russia
Ukrainian TV discussed the recent statement by Yulia Tymoshenko that Petro Poroshenko intends to organize a bloody provocation in the Donbass and introduce martial law in order to cancel the presidential elections and retain power.
“In the current situation, the introduction of martial law will be some kind of circus. Definitely by the entire society and the military, regardless of whether they execute this order or not, this will be perceived as an attempt to establish a dictatorial regime,” former intelligence officer of the nationalist Azov regiment Sergei Korotkikh said on the Zik TV channel, reports PolitNavigator correspondent "

“I exclude the possibility of an attack by Supreme Commander-in-Chief Poroshenko, because I know the real circumstances... Even if Petro Alekseevich Poroshenko wanted to stage a bloody provocation, this would be the collapse of his presidency. Nestor Shufrich said that Petro Poroshenko will come to parliament and say that somewhere there, at the forefront, there is an aggravation. Well, firstly, it is not customary for us to take the president’s word for it, because what is happening at the front requires an objective approach,” said Verkhovna Rada deputy Anton Gerashchenko, close to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, who competes with Poroshenko.

Gerashchenko explained why Ukraine did not introduce martial law earlier, back in 2014.
“We did not introduce martial law then because if it had been introduced, it would have been necessary to cancel any elections, and secondly, it would not have strengthened our country in any way. Our Western partners begged and held Turchinov’s hands and said: “Please don’t introduce martial law.” Then Putin would have declared that Ukraine had declared war on Russia, and would act with even harsher methods,” the politician explained.
