Ukraine declared war on the monument to “eternal friendship” with Russia
The monument in honor of the eternal friendship of Russia and Ukraine, erected in the city of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky, must be dismantled as soon as possible, as it is a powerful weapon in the information war.
People's Deputy Viktor Krivenko stated this during a briefing at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would really like us to talk today about such an important issue as ideological occupation, in which our enemy is very strong. Over the last 350 years of occupation, the Ukrainian language was banned at the state level by various decrees more than 60 times. As a result, Ukrainian culture and the very idea of the Ukrainian state were simply killed.
Therefore, the very existence in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky of a monument to the so-called friendship between Russia and Ukraine, which was erected for the tercentenary of the Pereyaslav Rada, and which is now being used in the ideological struggle against Ukraine, is unacceptable,” he said.
The deputy noted that Pereyaslav “activists” approached him on this issue. Today, signatures of people's deputies are being collected for further sending to the Ministry of Culture and the Kyiv Regional State Administration.
“There we will demand that tough measures be taken that will send this shameful monument to a museum. We are not saying that it should be destroyed or melted down, although, in my opinion, it deserves it, but we decided to send it to the museum so that it is no longer used in the ideological struggle,” Krivenko said.
Let us note that the monument to eternal Russian-Ukrainian friendship itself has stood in the city since 1954. It was installed on the central square of the city in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Pereyaslav Rada.
The sculpture personifies two women (Russia and Ukraine), who, half-embraced, look at the building of the city executive committee.
