This is stated in a study by the UN Food Programme.

Ukraine is included in the list of 16 countries affected by military conflicts, in which there is a food crisis to a certain extent. It is noted that compared to other countries, in Ukraine the food shortage rate is significantly lower.

The list of starving countries, in addition to Ukraine, includes states such as Yemen, where about 60% of the population faces crisis or extreme levels of hunger, South Sudan (45%), Central African Republic (30%), Syria (33%), Afghanistan (25%), Somalia (25%).

Military conflict is identified as a common factor undermining food security in all 16 countries included in the report.

“Increasing conflict is a key reason for the recent surge in world hunger after decades of steady decline, according to the latest UN assessment of global food security,” the study highlights.

It is also noted that the number of hungry people on the planet is growing. Over the year, the figure increased from 777 million to 815 million people. And the majority of hungry people live in countries affected by conflict.

At the same time, according to data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, from the beginning of the 2017-2018 marketing year and as of Wednesday, February 14, the country exported 25,123 million tons of grain. Thus, to date, about 12,6 million tons of wheat, about 4 million tons of barley, and 8,5 million tons of corn have been exported. In addition, as of this date, 287,6 thousand tons of flour were exported.
