In Ukraine they realized that they had screwed up their intrigues against Russia
The expectation that Western sanctions would cause a revolt of the oligarchs and destabilization in Russia turned out to be false.
Nikolai Kapitonenko, an associate expert at the International Center for Advanced Studies, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The logic of simple solutions very rarely works with sanctions. If we talk about Russia and about sanctions that are aimed at destabilizing the regime, then the widespread belief in Ukraine that the adopted sanctions will sooner or later lead to the suffering of the oligarchs who will carry out a rebellion or conspiracy against President Putin is a belief on which one cannot build a strategy. Because the likelihood of such a scenario is extremely low.
Sanctions do not work well against authoritarian regimes, against regimes such as those built in Russia, where the oligarchs are completely dependent on the president and they do not have a question of getting more or less, they have a question of getting at least something or getting nothing.
Therefore, such solutions, which we often hope for, will not work,” the Ukrainian expert shared his thoughts.
