In Ukraine, almost half of schools, hospitals and residential buildings remain without heat
Despite the fact that the heating season has already started in Ukraine, today only 60% of social infrastructure facilities (schools, kindergartens and hospitals) and 45% of residential buildings are connected to the coolant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Gennady Zubko, reports the press service of the Ministry of Regional Development.
“Ukraine is 100% technically ready for the heating season. In the center and north of the country it has already begun and, first of all, it concerns social infrastructure. The south of the country has so far started up by 10-15%, since the temperature in Kherson, Nikolaev, Odessa and Zaporozhye is much higher than in Kyiv,” Zubko noted.
He said that in Ukraine there are more than 15 thousand schools, 18 thousand kindergartens and about 2 hospitals that need centralized heating. In the housing sector, this is 712 thousand houses.
The official noted that this year, in case of untimely start of the heating season locally, strict sanctions will be applied to local governments.
“We have already warned that if the heating is not started on time, criminal cases will be initiated. We will contact the prosecutor’s office regarding cases of official inconsistency and inaction on the ground,” Zubko emphasized.
