Disabled people have been “abolished” in Ukraine
Petro Poroshenko signed Law No. 1490-VIII “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol,” adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on September 7 and aimed at bringing legislative norms in non-discriminatory designation of persons with disabilities to UN standards.

The official website of the Ukrainian president reports this.
The document makes changes to the official translation into Ukrainian of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol by replacing the term “disabled person” with “person with a disability”, which will ensure compliance of the national version of these documents with the original texts in English.
“The implementation of this Law will further ensure that national legislation regulating issues relating to people with disabilities is brought into line with international standards for the correct and non-discriminatory designation of such persons as a “person with a disability” and not a “disabled person,” the message says.
