In Ukraine, “red” diplomas were canceled: The closer to Europe, the worse the education
In Ukraine, as part of the reform of the education system “to European standards,” the issuance of “red” diplomas was abolished. This step is critically perceived among experts, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When there were honors diplomas, the guys who received them, who worked very hard throughout their studies, had a number of advantages - when getting a job, when traveling abroad, etc. Now they have decided to comb everyone with the same brush. Whether you studied well or poorly is of no concern to anyone. Received a diploma - you can become a deputy. How you studied, how successfully, no one cares,” says political expert Yuri Dudkin. He notes that Ukraine is already losing educated people.
“According to my conversations with people who worked and are working at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, outstanding scientists of various ages in various fields have left Ukraine abroad - more than 60%. And these are those graduates who at one time were directly involved in applied science. This is what we have lost,” says the expert.
Political scientist Alexander Bulavin believes that the lack of honors diplomas will reduce the motivation of students.
“I taught at a university for about three decades and I know very clearly that a diploma with honors has always been in demand. Students always worried if there were problems in their current performance that could affect the final result, i.e. may lead to the student not receiving a diploma with honors upon graduation. The abolition of honors diplomas will significantly reduce students’ motivation to study well and the level of education,” says Bulavin.
