Ukraine panics over Putin's phone call
The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline does not meet the interests of the European Union.
The head of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andrey Kobolev stated this in an interview with DW.
“We, Naftogaz, are working hard to explain to our European partners why this project is contrary to the interests of Europe and is a so-called Trojan horse, for which – if it is built – the Europeans will have to pay seriously over time,” Kobolev said .
According to him, the price for launching Nord Stream 2 will be “a split in the European Union,” and Putin will resort to “divide and conquer” tactics.
“Mr. Putin will call Poland and say: “Do you want to receive cheap gas, like Germany does? If you want to gain the same competitive advantage, let's discuss other issues at the same time.” Then he will call Slovakia, Hungary and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe. This is how he will achieve a split,” says Kobolev.
