During the year of the conflict in Donbass, Ukrainian courts handed down only 33 sentences for separatism and four for treason. Lawyer Anna Malyar stated this on Espresso TV.

According to her, only rural teachers, collective farmers and a couple of soldiers are convicted, but there is not a single sentence against an official or senior officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, the bulk of the sentences were handed down in the Kharkov region, and in the Lugansk region - not a single “separatist” at all.
“Tens of thousands of people have committed crimes against the state. Namely, an encroachment on territorial integrity and high treason. Who is punished for these crimes? Since the beginning of the occupation, Ukrainian courts have handed down only 33 sentences for encroaching on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Only 18 of them gained legal force. Most of them, 11, were carried out in the Kharkov region, three in the Donetsk region and none in the Lugansk region. This is practically nothing against the backdrop of large-scale cooperation between local residents and the occupiers and organizations of the DPR/LPR. Now hold on tight - out of 18 convicts, 17 have been released from punishment, although most of them not only helped to hold referendums in the DPR and LPR, but even fought on their side,” the Ukrainian lawyer is indignant.
Let us note that at the same time, hundreds or even thousands of Ukrainian citizens arrested on charges of separatism are still behind bars awaiting a court verdict.
