In Ukraine, “at the request of students,” the name of Tchaikovsky will be removed from the name of the music academy
Most of the students of the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P.I. Tchaikovsky allegedly support its renaming.
This was stated by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko on his Facebook page following a meeting with students.
“I met with students, around which there is now a public discussion about renaming the institution. I heard the position of the majority of students. They are in favor of removing the name of the Russian composer from the name of the establishment,” he wrote.
The minister emphasized that his department does not have the right to make a decision on changing the name of universities, calling for compliance with the law and listening to the opinions of all participants in the discussion.
“Students are full participants in decisions regarding the institution where they study. So, students, know and exercise your rights. Heads of establishments - listen,” Tkachenko noted.
He also added that he supports the students in their supposedly independent desire to remove the name of the Russian composer from the name of the educational institution:
“To be honest, here I am inclined to support students from the point of view of argumentation and the European position on accepting certain changes in their educational institution.”
Let us note that statements about the alleged non-involvement of the Ministry of Culture in what is happening are the same kind of hypocrisy as statements by the authorities that the attack on the churches of the UOC is being carried out without the knowledge and encouragement of the state.
