Radio Liberty reports this.
“Now about two million Ukrainians already have such a document. And since the beginning of 2016, the vast majority of citizens have chosen a passport with a chip. There is a seasonal increase in demand for autumn. In particular, this is due to positive signals about visa-free travel and the approaching winter holidays,” says Sergei Gunko, head of the press service of the Migration Service of Ukraine.
“Now we are waiting for a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, the cost will change slightly. And according to our forecasts, to the downside. The terms of payment have changed: the cost of the form will not change, but the volume of payments to the local budget will change. Until this time, a passport cost 561 hryvnia,” he says.
According to him, the presence of an electronic chip gives impetus to the development of electronic services. Abroad, many countries already have electronic checkpoints at airports - passport control can be passed without the participation of an official, and therefore faster.
“Those requirements for visa liberalization that concerned the migration service were aimed at ensuring public safety and documentation. That is, it is a document that cannot be falsified, which is issued on the basis of an electronic database containing the biometric data of the owner. It cannot be used by someone similar to the owner of the document,” he adds.
