In Ukraine, the wholesale price of electricity was increased instead of the previously announced reduction.
The National Commission, which carries out state regulation in the field of energy and utilities, plans to increase the wholesale market price for electricity by 1% from April 2017, 1, instead of the previously approved price reduction of 5,8%.

This is stated in the materials of the commission prepared for the meeting on March 23, reports the Ukrayinska Pravda publication.
According to the materials, the price for the II-IV quarters is planned to be approved in the amount of 1354,98 UAH/MWh (excluding VAT).
As NERC head Dmitry Vovk explained on his Facebook page, the need to increase the ORC is related to the need to ensure stable operation of the country’s energy system; thermal coal will be purchased abroad.
“What is undeniable today is the shortage of coal (as well as natural gas) and the need to purchase it abroad at a price of up to $100 per ton,” he wrote.
The draft decision of the commission notes that the forecast balance of electricity for 2017, approved on March 3, assumes the consumption of thermal power plants and thermal power plants in the country of 26,541 million tons of coal.
Its import this year is expected to be 5,6 million tons, including 5,302 million tons in the second and fourth quarters.
Earlier, NERC published a draft decision on increasing tariffs for the supply of heat and electricity for thermal power plants, according to which the increase in the price of coal in their tariffs will increase by 26,2-26,5%.
As you know, in March the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission approved a new methodology for determining the wholesale market price for electricity. This is the price at which thermal power plants sell electricity to the market. In particular, it takes into account the price of coal.
According to the new methodology, the cost of coal in the production of coal-thermal generation is calculated using the formula “the cost of coal in the port of Rotterdam plus the cost of its delivery to Ukraine.”
NERC carries out state regulation of the activities of natural monopolies in the electric power industry, heat supply, oil and gas complex, centralized water supply and drainage, processing and disposal of household waste, and also ensures the implementation of pricing and tariff policies in these areas.
