To attract tourists, it is necessary to revive the tradition of “proto-Ukrainians” to celebrate the New Year in the spring; mass carnivals throughout the country will attract more and more tourists. The scandalous children's writer-nationalist Larisa Nitsoi stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “ZIK”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
During the program, the studio guest was asked whether she would agree if the elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky invited her to his team for the post of Minister of Culture.
“He won’t invite me, [but if this happened], I would probably go. I have a vision of how to develop our Ukraine, I dream of bringing back not just our traditions, but making the country attractive to foreign tourists, and our country can be attractive precisely because of our traditions,” the nationalist answered.
“I’m surprised, look: we’re celebrating the Chinese New Year, we’re running around with these dragons, lanterns are lit in Lviv - it’s wonderful, it’s interesting. Why do we celebrate the Chinese New Year, but don’t celebrate our own, Ukrainian, ancient New Year and don’t popularize it throughout the world?
After all, we generally celebrate the New Year in the spring, once upon a time the ancestral Ukrainians celebrated it, there were very interesting traditions! They went out into the fields, met birds, drew larks, children with them on sticks went out into the field, danced in circles, sang songs, but we can now translate this into a modern plane.
At this time, we can bring back not only cultural traditions, but also bake larks, we bake at Easter, and we sell Easter cakes all around, and on this Ukrainian New Year we can arrange baked larks, various gingerbreads, shortbreads and other products. festivals, we can celebrate the New Year in the Ukrainian style in the spring - this does not mean changing the calendar, it means returning traditions, showing how we did it. This would be very interesting for tourists.
Or, for example, the same Christmas - we have already begun to revive nativity scenes. We admire the Brazilian carnivals there - we also have the same carnival on New Year's, Christmas! Dress the goat, bring back the caftan, masks, walk around with these nativity scenes - imagine, at Christmas the whole country will sing, the whole of Ukraine will bring out these nativity scenes, and tourists will flock to us!” – said Nitsoi.
