A scandal continues in Ukraine over an article by Kuchma’s son-in-law, who proposed making peace with Russia
A scandal continues in Ukraine over an article in the Western press by the son-in-law of ex-President Leonid Kuchma, oligarch Viktor Pinchuk, who proposed looking for compromises with Russia.
Today, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Konstantin Eliseev published a response to Pinchuk in the Wall Street Journal - a statement about the inadmissibility of “compromises on Russian terms.”

“Firstly, no refusal of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine... Secondly, no trade in the territories of Ukraine, be it Donbass or Crimea. These territories cannot be part of trades for peace. They are Ukraine... Thirdly, there will be no elections in Donbass while the Russian boot is on Ukrainian soil,” writes Eliseev.
It is interesting that the Maidan activists themselves do not believe the patriotic slogans in the article by Petro Poroshenko’s subordinate.
“Poroshenko says that there will be no abandonment of the EU and NATO. I’ll say it diplomatically – it’s a complete lie. Ukraine was abandoned as a partner because Poroshenko did everything for this during his presidency. He simply talked about the EU, but meant his union of corrupt officials and his dear friends,” comments Verkhovna Rada deputy Viktor Baloga.
Former speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin draws attention to an interesting detail - the Wall Street Journal refused to publish an article by an AP official on the front page.
“If Pinchuk was given a column, then AP was given space only in the “Letters to the Editor” section. This is probably to ensure speed of publication... It’s just that the Americans have topics that are more important than Ukraine, and the editors have a queue of columns,” comments Voloshin.
