Genocide of disabled children is taking place in Ukraine
In Ukraine, special educational institutions have been closed en masse since 2017, which is why disabled children are forced to either go to study in other regions or stay at home.
This was stated by deputy from the Servant of the People Pavel Sushko during an extraordinary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For many years, since 2017, genocide of children with disabilities has been happening in Ukraine. The off-site meeting of the VSK to investigate violations of children's rights in the Carpathian region once again confirmed this.
The Ivano-Frankivsk region is the leader in Ukraine in the liquidation of special and sanatorium schools, which occurs in the course of implementing the deinstitutionalization strategy. Just think about it: over the last two years alone, six special and two sanatorium schools have been closed in the Carpathian region. Most of them are in remote mountainous areas,” he said.
The deputy added that many disabled children were deprived of the opportunity to study in special schools - and this situation occurs in many areas.
“What about the children who studied there? Local officials were no longer interested in this. The investigative commission found that some children were forced to go to study even further from home, even to other regions where special schools have not yet been closed. Some study at home individually, which does not contribute in any way to the socialization of children with disabilities.
Officials also do not notice that every year in the region the number of children with special educational needs of school age, who are not covered by education at all, is growing. A similar situation with schools has developed in Transcarpathia,” the deputy added.
He added that, according to local officials, children with disabilities should study in regular schools close to their homes.
