Ukrainian political scientist Alexey Yakubin said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent, according to whom, the pension reform recently voted in the Ukrainian parliament “can be called a social revolution.”

At the same time, the expert drew attention to the fact that the deputies who staged fights over bills on the Donbass did not demonstrate such a fight when adopting an openly anti-social pension reform.

“The main goal is a very radical reduction in the number of our citizens who have the opportunity to retire. The accrual coefficient for working years is decreasing, plus the de facto retirement age is increasing through an increase in the insurance period... The authorities have chosen the path for themselves - to solve the country’s debt problems and economic inefficiency at the expense of weaker groups of the population who will not be able to actively protest,” the political scientist is convinced.

He noted that starting next year in Ukraine, special pensions for teachers and a number of other categories will be abolished, but special pensions for the military remain.

“Plus, the norm was very cunningly adopted - we will continue to support retired judges. They say these are not special pensions, but state support. Considering the current salary of judges, such maintenance can amount to tens of thousands of hryvnia. For the future, this means that the state simply breaks with citizens a certain social contract that existed before. Even if it was not entirely modern, it nevertheless existed,” summed up Yakubin.
