This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
“Amendments are being made to the Law of Ukraine “On the procedure for leaving Ukraine and entering Ukraine for citizens of Ukraine” and the Law of Ukraine “On the Unified State Demographic Register and documents that confirm the citizenship of Ukraine, certify an individual or its special status,” the message says.
“The changes come into force on October 1, 2016, and provide, among other things, for the abolition of the possibility of extending the validity of passports of citizens of Ukraine for traveling abroad (the so-called foreign passports). Therefore, from October 1, 2016, foreign passports will no longer be issued!
The department clarified that if a foreign passport expires, a new passport document must be issued.
“If it is necessary to urgently travel to Ukraine, the Consulate General can issue an identity card for returning to Ukraine.
Foreign passports whose validity has already been extended will remain valid for the period for which they were extended,” the department noted.
