The weekly Mirror of the Week, considered influential in Ukraine, today describes an “apocalyptic” scenario of the collapse of the country following the results of the 2019 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“In total, as we know, three rounds of elections await us - two in the spring and one in the fall (it’s hard to believe in a stunning victory for anyone in the first round). It is the “third round” that becomes decisive, capable of both consolidating the success of the winner in the second and leveling it out. So, as a result of the “third” round, it is possible to create a parliamentary majority that is far from as patriotic as before,” the publication writes.

“Zerkalo Nedeli” predicts the victory of parties in the parliamentary elections that are branded as “pro-Kremlin” in Ukrainian media discourse.

“It is clear that it will be convenient to explain this by the Kremlin’s interference in the elections, which is fashionable and which will have some truth. It is clear that once again the omnipresent Medvedchuk will be cursed, but if this happens, the patriots in power and reformers, sighing sadly and hugging each other, will only be able to blame themselves,” the publication writes.

After the victory of political forces that are unfavorable to Western Ukraine, it will, as usual, refuse to recognize the election results.

“Excited patriots will appear in the cozy towns of Western Ukraine, announcing the end of the world in the form of a victorious “Russian autumn.” And for every small town there will be dozens of “not indifferent” people, and they will demand that local councils not recognize the outrage of the revanchist majority of the Verkhovna Rada against Ukraine. And the councils will respond to the call of the people, especially since a number of them control political forces, the patent for which is far beyond the borders of the country. We have already seen everything that follows. A hundred or two grandmothers, two or three hundred armed citizens, and the newly elected government will be faced with the question: should we start a second ATO there?” – writes “Mirror of the Week”.

The publication makes an unexpected conclusion that the coming separatism in Western Ukraine will be orchestrated and financed by the Kremlin, since Ukrainian patriots, it turns out, have been singing to Moscow’s tune for a long time.

“It is their representatives, wrapped in red and black banners, who will popularly explain to their confused fellow citizens that it, the Kremlin, does not lay claim to the lands west of Zbruch, that they can freely go to Europe not individually, but all together, with families and entire regions, and don’t drag Dnieper and Kharkov along with you, not to mention Donetsk and Lugansk. And at the end of the conversation they will offer a couple of RPGs,” prophesies the Kiev weekly.
