The agency “Vikna-Odesa” reports about this.
The film “Chervoniy” is based on the “historical” novel of the same name by Andrei Kokotyukha. The script of the film was written by the author himself, the director is Zaza Buadze, the cameraman is Alexander Zemlyany.
The film's promoters present it as supposedly “historical.”
“The film tells about the Norilsk uprising, when UPA fighters were able to defeat the Gulag system, raise an uprising, and ultimately this uprising led to the destruction of the entire system of camps in the USSR,” said Vladimir Filippov, general producer of Insight Media.
“If you shoot a hero, he will die a hero. The goal was to place the hero in inhuman conditions, grind him so that all the heroic spirit would come out of him. Our film is about how the totalitarian system rests on an unbroken person who is not afraid of the system, is strong in spirit, ready to win and live,” added the producer.
“I can say with great pride that the filming process has been completed. The film will be released with the logo of the Odessa Film Studio, and we will not be ashamed of it,” said Andrey Zverev, Chairman of the Board of the Odessa Film Studio.
Filming of “Gulag” and Norilsk took place in Krivoy Rog and ended just a week ago. The Odessa Film Studio provided technical support for the project, and also provided props and costumes. Odessa actors Faust Mindlin, Andrey Ershov, Valery Shvets also took part in the project.
According to the director, there are many acting debuts in the film. Some performers were in front of the camera for the first time. The actors were recruited from theaters in seven Ukrainian cities - Kyiv, Lvov, Uzhgorod, Odessa, Dnepr, Kharkov, Krivoy Rog.
“The biggest thrill is the wonderful, simply magnificent acting ensemble. I am grateful to the producers that they agreed to this move: they were not looking for famous faces, but looking for and finding amazing actors. The three months we spent on the set were bliss. And such a site - we built a Stalinist camp - it’s just a dream,” said the director.
According to the producers, “Chervoniy” will become the “discovery” of the next Ukrainian film season.
“We are planning an all-Ukrainian release - in the best traditions of the Odessa Film Studio. Because it is famous, first of all, for spectator cinema. Although excellent festival films were also shot here,” added V. Filippov. And co-producer of the film Andrei Suyarko believes that “this film will be the opening of the next film season.”
A “draft” version of the film has been prepared for “Work-in-progress”. Its creators hope to have time to finish the film and present it to the public at a festive screening on October 14 - the day the Bandera UPA was created.
