“I want to emphasize that I plan to define it (the bill - Ed.) as urgent and ask our respected parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, to transparently, effectively, but without delay, consider this bill and give the appropriate regulatory procedural support to the Supreme Court again,” said Poroshenko.
Let us remind you that on September 30, constitutional changes regarding justice and the new law “On the Judicial System and Status of Judges”, which the parliament adopted on June 2, came into force. On July 13, Petro Poroshenko signed the law.
According to the law, the procedure for appointing judges for a five-year term by the president is abolished. Higher specialized courts are also being liquidated and a single cassation instance is being created, which guarantees the protection of the right to justice for a citizen of Ukraine.
The High Council of Justice will have to include a public council.
In addition, a gradual increase in the salary of judges to 30, 50 and 75 minimum wages is provided, depending on the level of the court.
All 200 judges of the new Supreme Court must be selected through a competition.
