This is evidenced by data from a study presented by the public initiative “Restoration of Donbass”.
Thus, if in 2014, ¾ (75,4%) of Ukrainian citizens perceived migrants as people in trouble, then in 2015 this share decreased to 57,4%. The proportion of those who perceived them as people who need help also decreased – from 57,7% to 61,2%. But the number of those who perceive migrants as people complicating their lives (from 5,5% to 9,8%), competing for their jobs (from 4,3% to 9,9%), worsening the crime situation (from 3,1 .6,1% to 5,5%), as those who do not want to work and live on benefits (from 12,4 to 20,3%), do not want to fight in Donbass (from 28,4% to 7,9%) , and has a significantly different mentality (from 11,6% to XNUMX%). Thus, in the context of a deepening economic crisis, Ukrainians from other regions perceive refugees as competitors for a decreasing share of the social “pie”, for drying up resources and social benefits.
Information received from most media about displaced people did not have a noticeable impact on attitudes towards them, with the exception of radio and the press - a significant number of respondents noted that these media to one degree or another worsened attitudes towards displaced people.
12% of respondents said they were completely ready to provide assistance to residents of Donbass; 37% said they were more likely to provide assistance. 20% and 18%, respectively, said they were completely unprepared and that they were rather not ready to provide assistance. The “record” of unfriendliness belongs to Kiev - here 32,4% of respondents said that they were absolutely not ready to provide assistance and only 6,6% - that they were absolutely ready.
Only 7,5% of residents of the capital of Ukraine are ready to settle displaced persons; this proportion is even smaller in the center and west of the country (1,2% and 1,8%). In the south, east and in the ATO zone this share is higher (6,2%, 9% and 12,9%). The readiness to provide financial assistance in all regions is approximately the same and varies from 44-45% (south and Kyiv) to 56-62% (east and the so-called “ATO” zone).
The survey was conducted by TNS Ukraine during the period from March 3 to March 29, 2016. 2000 respondents over 18 years of age were interviewed in all regions of Ukraine including the so-called zone. “ATO”.
