Presidential elections have started in Ukraine
Kyiv, May 25 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Elections for a new president are being held in Ukraine on Sunday: despite Kiev’s loss of control over Crimea and a large part of the Donbass, the vote will be recognized as valid even if only one polling station opens – such changes to the law in advance introduced by the deputies.

The sites are open until 20:00. The new authorities are interested in increasing turnout, as this should remove the question of the legitimacy of the campaign. Russia, in turn, declares that the election procedure is dubious, since Viktor Yanukovych, who fled Kyiv, still formally remains in the post of president.
The favorites in the race are Petro Poroshenko and Yulia Tymoshenko - the same old oligarchs whose rule the Maidan seemed to oppose. Several candidates representing the South-East of the country withdrew from the race shortly before voting day, citing the lack of equal conditions for campaigning, attacking, etc.
At the same time, elections for the mayor and city council are being held in Kyiv today. Vitali Klitschko, who refused to fight for the post of head of state, can take the chair of the mayor of the capital.
Mayoral elections are also taking place in Odessa and Cherkassy.
