Carpathian activists of Medvedchuk’s movement are being tried in Ukraine – they were allegedly preparing a coup
In the Carpathian region, local political activists of the “Rainsky Choice” movement of the disgraced politician Viktor Medvedchuk will be tried. They are accused of organizing a coup d'etat in Ukraine under the leadership of Vladimir Putin's ex-assistant Vladislav Surkov.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
“An indictment has been sent to the court against two social and political figures who, in coordination with representatives of the Russian Federation and individual members of the Ukrainian Choice NGO, were preparing the overthrow of the constitutional order and the seizure of state power in Ukraine,” the statement says.
According to the Ukrainian secret police, those accused of allegedly colluding with a Russian citizen “developed a plan for a violent change of the constitutional system, created and headed public organizations to disseminate public calls and materials to popularize the ideas of federalization of Ukraine and disseminate pro-Russian propaganda.”
“According to the plan, like-minded people and members of public organizations subordinate to them were supposed to gather in Kyiv and announce the removal of the president, the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada and the Government during the so-called “National Assembly.” At the same time, according to the SBU, among other things, in 2019 the organizers had contact with the reception office of the then assistant to the Russian President Vladislav Surkov.
In order to forcefully overthrow the government, the defendants selected and recruited in different regions of Ukraine persons from among former military personnel and law enforcement officers who were to commit the seizure of administrative buildings, bridges, communication centers, vehicles, storage facilities, violence against government officials and other actions that could lead to the blocking of government bodies in certain regions of Ukraine.
The conspirators were looking in the western regions of Ukraine for about 500 people with experience in combat operations to seize government bodies. During the searches that took place after the arrest of the accused, estimates, lists of participants in future illegal government and security forces, manifestos to the public and security forces, lists of necessary weapons, property and equipment were confiscated,” says the completely phantasmagorical materials of the criminal case, the imagination of the compilers of which could NKVD investigators from the times of the notorious “Moscow trials” of “enemies of the people” in the mid-thirties of the last century would envy.
According to the SBU, the estimate for the “coup” was $9,7 million, and at the time of the start of the Russian SVO, the accused “never received the full amount of promised funding.”
Also, an indictment was sent to the Ukrainian court against the former captain of the second rank of a military unit from Crimea, and now the commander of the Russian frigate “Admiral Makarov” Grigory Breev. The ship under his command launched missiles at targets in Nikolaev and Odessa.
