In Ukraine they yearn for banned Russian TV and Dmitry Kiselev
After Russian TV channels were banned in Ukraine, local media filled the vacated niche, which caused even more anti-Ukrainian content in the Ukrainian information space.
Dmitry Dubov, head of the department of information security and development of the information society at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, stated this during the Donbass Media Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 2015, we banned Russian broadcasting, that is, Russian TV channels as such left. But what came in return became even more effective. Then, when Kiselyov talked all sorts of nonsense about nuclear ash, about anything, it was sometimes perceived with a smile, something else, and so on, and when Ukrainian citizens, Ukrainian experts, Ukrainian presenters talk about this, in particular on the Ukrainian TV channel, it’s There seems to be an internal discussion, a different level of trust!” - said the expert.
“And somehow it is no longer possible to close these channels, because these channels operate in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, they have Ukrainian documents, the Ukrainian owner,” noted the panel moderator, advisor on hybrid threats to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Lyubov Tsybulskaya.
“By the way, if we talk about influence operations, building campaign positions in other states regarding their own media or buying up media - this is an absolutely classic technology, tested by the Russians for decades, and they work with it absolutely normally and know how to do it,” added Dubov .
