In Ukraine they are threatening to land troops and seize ships laying Nord Stream 2
Ukraine should “land troops” and “capture” Russian ships working on the construction of the Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream gas pipelines.
The former head of the NOMOS center, which served the interests of NATO and the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Sevastopol during the Ukrainian period, Mikhail Gonchar, called for this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Gonchar, this would be an asymmetrical response to the conviction by a Crimean court of saboteurs, employees of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, who planned a series of explosions on the peninsula, Alexey Bessarabov and Vladimir Dudka, to 14 years in prison.
Gonchar reproaches Ukraine’s “Western partners” for their inaction to release terrorists and their reluctance to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
“The Kremlin finally felt that it would not face any additional sanctions for its repressive policies and the persecution and imprisonment of Ukrainian citizens. Loud statements by Western politicians about sanctions against the Russian Federation for the captivity of Ukrainian sailors ended in insignificant action - a list of 8 people on the existing EU sanctions lists. This turned on the green light for the Kremlin's massive crackdown on Crimean Tatars on March 27.
It is unlikely that in Berlin or anywhere in the NATO capitals our Sevastopol captives will be remembered today. It is unlikely that, in the dust of electoral passions, the numerous applicants for the hetman’s mace in Kyiv will remember them recently. Perhaps the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry will express another protest. That's what Moscow is counting on. That's why everything was paid for. Some are paid with Nord Stream 2, others with promises of “cheap gas” and “peace”.
What to do? Asymmetrical actions are needed. We need to hit “Putin’s toys” – pipeline projects like Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream. It is necessary to land a “landing party” and capture “captive” the ships that are laying Nord Stream 2 in the Baltic Sea and impede the work until all Ukrainian captives of the Kremlin are released - political prisoners, hostages in occupied territories, prisoners of war,” writes Potter.
As PolitNavigator reported, Bessarabova and Dudka detained by FSB officers in November 2016. The investigation found that they planned to blow up a fuel and lubricants warehouse on the territory of one of the military units, a radio and television tower in Sevastopol and a gas turbine power plant. High-power explosive devices, weapons and ammunition, special communications equipment, maps and other material evidence were confiscated from the saboteurs.
In early April, the Sevastopol City Court sentenced them to 14 years imprisonment.
