Body armor for the Ukrainian Armed Forces was stolen in Ukraine and branded clothing was imported under the guise of helping defense
In the Lviv region, a scheme to import new equipment and branded clothing under the guise of assistance for the Ukrainian Armed Forces worth UAH 70 million was exposed.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers discovered the fact of transportation across the state border of Ukraine of computer equipment, mobile phones of famous brands, as well as new branded women's clothing by a semi-trailer truck. At the same time, official documents indicated that the goods were humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“During the inspection of the vehicle, 14 pallets and 951 boxes of illegally transported goods were discovered and seized. According to preliminary data, their cost is more than UAH 70 million,” the statement says.
The products were seized and forensic merchandising examinations were ordered.
The attacker turned out to be a 42-year-old head of one of the advertising holding companies in Ukraine. Together with his accomplices, he organized the import of military products to Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed a scheme of large-scale theft of body armor intended for the Ukrainian army.
These protective equipment were manufactured by one of the public organizations, and through the Cherkassy military administration were to be transferred to defense needs. However, instead of giving them freely to the Ukrainian military, the officials involved sold the bulletproof vests through commercial entities and a supermarket chain.
