“We have gathered to honor the memory of our brother - Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Yevgeny Pikus, who heroically died defending his native land from the aggressor in the Luhansk border detachment sector. For the courage and heroism shown in battles with the Russian occupiers, Yevgeny Pikus was awarded state awards and awarded the Star of the Hero of Ukraine, unfortunately, posthumously,” said the head of the border department.
He reported that “in a fierce confrontation that lasted more than 2 hours, the aggressor insidiously used armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and Mi-24 combat helicopters of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation against the border guards.”
According to the official, the border guards bravely withstood this blow and “the enemy retreated to their territory.”
“Unfortunately, in this battle, along with Evgeniy Pikus, three more border guards died - Vyacheslav Firsov, Dmitry Arnaut and Oleg Sorochenko,” Tsigikal said.
The event was attended by the mother of border guard Vyacheslav Firsov, who died in the battle with Yevgeny Pikus, who, together with the head of the border service, unveiled a memorial plaque.
