Same-sex partnerships with Germans have been legalized in Ukraine
In April 2016, Kyiv and Berlin signed an international treaty that introduces same-sex relationships between Ukrainians and Germans into the legislative field; moreover, it gives such persons preferences for obtaining a residence permit in Ukraine and exemption from tax procedures.
“LGBT activist”, head of the public organization “Gay Forum Ukraine” Svyatoslav Sheremet said this on air on the Magnolia TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now for the first time I will say on air: Ukraine has already formally recognized same-sex partnerships, as of today in our legislation. This happened in April 2016, and we, as a state, signed an international agreement between Ukraine and Germany on trade and industrial relations.
The essence of this agreement is that we, as a state, recognize partnerships concluded by foreign citizens and their civil partners, even if they are citizens of Ukraine, and give them certain preferences, for example, the right to reside in Ukraine, exemption from tax procedures, and so on. This is already in our legislative field today,” Sheremet said.
