In Ukraine, vandals destroyed a monument to the legendary Red commander
Acts of vandalism against Soviet monuments continue in Ukraine. So, last night there were two incidents in the Poltava region.
The local publication Zmist reports this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Unknown people destroyed memorial signs in Lokhvitsa and Lubny. In particular, the monument to Vasily Chapaev was demolished in Lubny (previously it was renamed the monument to the Chapaev division). Information about the destruction of monuments was received by the police, and is now being checked,” the publication writes.
At the same time, the police did not specify which monument was demolished in Lokhvitsa, but it is known that a monument to Komsomol members was preserved there.
“The monument to Komsomol members in Lokhvitsa is a mockery of the memory of millions of people who suffered from communism. Komsomol members, side by side with communists, committed crimes against humanity - mass terror, deportations and famine-genocide. The Komsomol served as a model for the Hitler Youth and performed similar functions,” says Oleg Pustovgar, a representative of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory of the Poltava region.
It is worth noting that the Komsomol does not appear in the law on decommunization.
This is what the monument to Komsomol members looked like before it was destroyed by vandals.
