In Ukraine, military personnel were banned from heading the Ministry of Defense
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has banned the appointment of military personnel to the post of Minister of Defense, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The decree published on Monday on the website of the head of state makes changes to the list of positions of military personnel and law enforcement officers to be filled by senior officers (commands), and the maximum military and special ranks for these positions.
Excluded from the list are such positions to be filled by the military as the Minister of Defense, his deputy and the director of the department of military policy, strategic planning and international cooperation.
It is reported that this decision is aimed at continuing to bring the structure of the Ministry of Defense to European and NATO standards, in accordance with which the figure of the Minister of Defense is political, and professional military personnel head the General Staff.
