This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik, according to whom one of the trends in 2017 will be the strengthening of the role of the military in Ukraine.
“We often talked about this, but we meant right-wing radicals. But, I think, the right-wing radicals have demonstrated their certain inability to participate in political processes, not a single right-wing party is dismantling parliamentary ratings today. Moreover: all the leaders of the right, to one degree or another, let’s say, are overwhelmed by cooperation with the authorities, which is unacceptable and looks like an attempt at betrayal in this environment. Therefore, the new trend of this year will be the strengthening of ATO veterans, who may not belong to right-wing movements, but gained their experience and have high authority in the military environment and society in connection with their participation in the ATO,” the expert believes.
At the same time, he noted that today many political parties have begun to work with “ATO veterans.”
“So far, these structures have not been played out in politics, but I am sure they will be demonstrated, because, unlike right-wing radicals, ATO veterans enjoy high support in society and have high legitimacy. This power wing will not only manifest itself, but also generate new political leaders, who will be unexpected for us. Who knew about the “Right Sector” a month before the Maidan, relatively speaking. And this new political trend will be very interesting,” the political scientist predicts.
