Second death from dangerous infection recorded in Ukraine
The second case of a dangerous infection, listeriosis, has been recorded in Ukraine - a man has died, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported in the press center of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“As of August 2018, 2 cases of listeriosis were recorded in Ukraine. The first was recorded in the Lviv region - a woman born in 1999 fell ill with an anginal-septic form of listeriosis, after treatment in a hospital she recovered.
The second case, alas, was fatal; a man born in 1949 in Kyiv died in July 2018 from listeriosis with damage to brain tissue,” the Ministry of Health added.
The department added that the number of cases may increase, since the incubation period of the disease is 70 days. The bacterium came to Ukraine in frozen corn from Hungary. Now it is being actively withdrawn from sale.
According to the European Food Safety Authority, 47 people fell ill in European countries, of which 10 people died.
Listeriosis is an infectious disease of animals and humans. The disease affects the central nervous system, has septic manifestations or occurs in the form of asymptomatic carriage. Small rashes appear on the skin; rashes in the form of small grayish-white granulomas often appear on the mucous membranes of the mouth, pharynx, and esophagus.
Fever, respiratory distress, bouts of cyanosis, and tachycardia also appear. In the lungs there are symptoms of pneumonia. Enlarged liver and spleen. The general condition resembles sepsis. When the nervous system is damaged, the clinical picture resembles the picture of purulent meningitis.
