This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian writer Taras Prokhasko in a commentary to the Kyiv magazine “Novoye Vremya”, answering the question whether Ukraine needs to reintegrate the Donbass.
“Everything is shaping up in such a way that the most natural way for the situation to develop would be to freeze the problem for some time. But it is important not to turn a blind eye to the presence of a problem. If we talk about the reintegration of Donbass, then the first step would be to ensure that Russia does not interfere in all this. It is clear that now this seems unlikely and even impossible. But, I think, when such an agreement comes or a moment when intervention will be of little interest to Russia, then the time will come to talk about it,” the writer said.
At the same time, he says that today the form or formula that will be acceptable to all parties to the conflict has not yet been voiced.
“I don’t exclude that it will be something new, some special approach to this territory. At the same time, not in the sense that is familiar to us now - a special status, but a truly new form of coexistence with that part of the country,” Prokhasko noted.
