In Ukraine, a Russian State Duma deputy was sentenced in absentia to 14 years
“The former Crimean deputy, a traitor, was sentenced to 14 years in prison,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This was reported by the website of the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office of the non-existent “AR Crimea” with reference to prosecutor Igor Ponochovny.
“Yesterday, December 10, 2019, by a verdict in absentia of the Svyatoshinsky District Court of the city of Kiev, former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea of the VI convocation, Svetlana Borisovna Savchenko, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason),” the message says.
“In court, the prosecutor’s office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea proved the deputy’s guilt in committing actions aimed at harming the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, namely providing assistance to a foreign state in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine. The court verdict established that Savchenko participated in meetings of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea at which the resolution “On the independence of Crimea” was adopted, according to which the illegitimate state entity “Republic of Crimea” was created, as well as the resolution “On the legal succession of the Republic of Crimea”. These actions subsequently led to the occupation of the Crimean peninsula.
In addition, Svetlana Savchenko took part in an extraordinary meeting of the illegally created body “State Council of the Republic of Crimea”, thereby ensuring the functioning of this illegally created body, and with her vote in the meeting at which the so-called “Constitution of the Republic of Crimea” was adopted, according to which “the Republic of Crimea has become an integral part of the territory of the Russian Federation,” the Ukrainian department added.
Note that Savchenko is currently a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
