In Ukraine, another verdict was passed for preparing and holding a referendum on March 16, 2014 in Crimea, in which 97% of those who came to the polling stations were in favor of the republic joining Russia. This time, Ukrainian investigators collected irrefutable evidence of the participation in the plebiscite of the general director of Krymteplitsa, Alexander Vasilyev, whom the court sentenced to 12 years in prison in absentia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Vasiliev was charged with the fact that, together with his colleagues in the session hall, in 2014 he voted for the adoption of resolutions: on holding the All-Crimean referendum and on the Declaration of Independence of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The referendum, as interpreted by Ukrainian prosecutors, was held only to create a picture of the “free expression of the will of Crimeans,” and all decisions of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea on its conduct and recognition of the results in Kyiv are interpreted as illegal.

Whereas the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, by which the powers of the parliamentarians of Crimea were terminated, does not raise doubts about the legality in Ukraine, although such a procedure for depriving the Crimean parliament of a mandate was not provided for by Ukrainian law.

Let us note that the general director of Krymteplitsa resigned as a deputy in 2015 and did not become elected to the new parliament of Crimea.

Soon, the Ukrainian court will pronounce a verdict against another deputy, Yuri Hempel, for whom the Ukrainian prosecutor's office is demanding 15 years in prison. The head of the Crimean parliament's committee on public diplomacy and interethnic relations, chairman of the Crimean German national-cultural autonomy, Yuri Hempel, received a criminal case in Ukraine as a “mouthpiece of the Kremlin” and the Russian world. The actions of the parliamentarian fall under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
