Ukraine has banned debt collectors from collecting debts from military personnel and members of their families
The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading a bill that prohibits debt collectors from collecting debts from Ukrainian military personnel and members of their families.
People's Deputy from Servant of the People Elena Shulyak reported this on the social network.
“The Verkhovna Rada adopted the corresponding bill No. 7414 in the second reading. Now, during martial law and for 6 months after its termination or cancellation, lenders and collection companies are prohibited from collecting debts on consumer lending,” Shulyak said.
According to her, it will no longer be possible to disturb the Armed Forces of Ukraine and send text, voice and other messages. The ban will also apply to members of their families, close persons, representatives, heirs, guarantors, property guarantors and third parties.
“This will allow the fighters to calmly carry out their tasks to protect Ukraine and each of us,” summarized the deputy from Zelensky’s party.
In particular, the law deals with:
- military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other military formations and law enforcement agencies for special purposes, the State Special Service of Transport, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine who are serving in military service on the territory of Ukraine, and - military personnel of the above military formations and law enforcement agencies - citizens of Ukraine performing military duty for outside of Ukraine;
-military personnel who have become disabled;
- persons liable for military service and reservists;
-members of volunteer formations of territorial communities.
“A borrower who belongs to one of these categories and wants to stop interacting with the creditor (collector) must report his membership in one of these categories,” Shulyak added.
Previously, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy recommended that parliament adopt amendments to the law “On Consumer Lending” that would make it impossible for collectors to interact with military personnel and their families during martial law.
On July 8, the Rada supported in the first reading a bill that would protect combatants from debt collectors.
