There is a drought in Ukraine. Farmers may lose half of their grain harvest
Drought in the southern, central and eastern regions of Ukraine can lead to the loss of about 50% of the grain harvest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in a message on the website of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Rada (VAR) association.
According to the results of a survey of members of the WAR, wheat and barley were most affected due to critically low rainfall for several months.
“The last rain in our area was 2-3 weeks ago. And even then it was very weak, soaking the soil no more than 2-3 cm. This is the only rain that has happened since the winter,” said Nikolai Gursky, director of the private agro-industrial enterprise “Lyudmila” (Khmelnytsky region).
According to him, the losses of his farm on wheat will reach 30%, soybeans - about 20%.
At the same time, the director of the Shchedraya Usadba-M farm (Khmelnitsky region), Alexander Bondar, predicts that if heavy rains do not pass in the near future, he may lose about 40% of the wheat harvest and 50% of the soybeans.
Director of Terra LLC (Dnipropetrovsk region) Alexander Doroshenko noted that crop losses at his enterprise can also reach 50%.
At the same time, agricultural producers note that the exact amount of losses can be calculated closer to the time of harvest.
