Opposition media are being silenced in Ukraine
Sanctions against TV channels 112 and NewsOne are due to the fact that these media provide a real picture of life in the country and thereby further worsen the authority and rating of the authorities.
Political analyst Dmitry Korneychuk stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Peter Alekseevich promised us unheard-of freedom of speech and it is becoming closer and more unheard of. Elections are just around the corner, and the closer the elections are, the more we need to tighten the screws on those media outlets that allow themselves to criticize the president. Millions of people watch NewsOne and Channel 112. You can, of course, try to create some kind of parallel reality in the country, as our government is trying to do, but people feel that life is getting worse and worse, they are getting angrier. People understand that many media outlets that tell how good life is here are deceiving them. Accordingly, the audience on channels 112 and NewsOne is growing, because there people see the same picture that people themselves see in real life. This hurts the government’s ratings, which is why they are trying to shut up these opposition media,” he said.
